We were surrounded by huge mountain ranges, glaciers and clouds - I have never seen mountains like this. It was a humbling experience - a unique perspective on the size and scale of Alaskan wilderness.
The flight took us to the western end of Denali National Park and Preserve. Then, it explored the south of Denali Park including seeing the high mountains such as Mt. McKinley (20,320 ft.), Mt. Foraker (17,400 ft.), and Mt. Hunter (14,573 ft.).
"How did the mountain come to be?
In a Koyukon Athabashan story, Raven,
paddling furiously across a lake to
escape his enemy, hurled a white stone
at the great waves that rose behind him.
The stone turned the waves to stone and
Raven got away. The highest stone wave
would be called Deenaalee."
